This funding provides equity investments averaging around $500,000, with venture debt options ranging from $100,000 to $1.5 million. The primary goal is to assist companies in de-risking their technologies, achieving early commercial milestones, and attracting additional private capital.

Eligible applicants include Massachusetts-based startups whose products or services align with the definitions of "clean energy" or "clean energy research". To qualify, at least three of the following four functions must be based in Massachusetts: company headquarters, primary research and development, primary sales and marketing, and primary manufacturing.

The investment process is structured to be thorough yet efficient. It typically spans three to five months, beginning with the submission of a pitch deck. If selected, companies will undergo a due diligence process, followed by negotiations and final approval.

Funding focuses on sectors such as clean transportation, high-performance buildings, offshore wind, and net-zero grid technologies. Also open to considering technologies with significant impact potential outside these areas.
