Grant to Support Local Infrastructure Development Projects in Massachusetts (USA)
GrantID: 75019
Grant Funding Amount Low: $1,500,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $5,000,000
Summary
This grant opportunity is aimed at nonprofit or public entities in a particular U.S. state who act as support organizations for climate technology entrepreneurs. The purpose is to help build or expand shared infrastructure, equipment, and capital assets that foster testing, demonstration, and commercialization of climate tech innovations. In other words, the funding is intended not for running programs or paying salaries, but for durable physical assets (e.g. specialized labs, pilot systems, shared fabrication tools) that can serve multiple users over many years.
Applicants must be legally organized in the state and have a track record of service (e.g., five or more years of operation). Eligible applicant types include incubators, innovation centers, higher-education institutions, economic development organizations, or networks that support climate tech startups. The primary geographic eligibility is within the state, and the funded assets must have a useful life of at least a decade. Applicants are also expected to contribute cost share or matching funds (often a quarter of the total project cost).
Award amounts are significant — ranging from low millions to mid-millions of dollars — with reimbursement funding (i.e. the grantee invests first, then gets reimbursed according to the budget). Projects must generally be completed within one to three years. Operating, administrative, or programmatic expenses are excluded from this grant; those are intended to be funded elsewhere.
The process typically involves two phases: an initial concept submission, then a more detailed full application if invited. Deadlines are spaced across a year (e.g., early fall for concept, late fall for full application), with awards announced sometime afterward and contracts starting the following season. Multiple awards may be given each cycle, but each eligible organization may receive only one award per cycle.
Overall, this funding aims to strengthen the state’s climate tech ecosystem, increase access to shared assets, and help innovators scale by lowering infrastructure barriers.
