Unlike neighboring Rhode Island, Massachusetts requires summer learning programs to be aligned with the state's rigorous academic standards, ensuring that participating students remain on track academically. Massachusetts's unique geographic landscape, with its mix of urban and rural areas, demands tailored approaches to summer learning. The state's rural western regions, for example, often lack the resources and infrastructure available in more urban areas. Our grant program prioritizes funding for initiatives that provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences focused on core academic subjects. By supporting organizations that partner with schools and local community groups, we aim to promote continued learning and enrichment among disadvantaged youth. Key outcomes we target include maintaining or improving grade-level equivalency in math and reading, as well as fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the summer program. In Massachusetts, where educational outcomes are closely tied to future economic opportunities, these outcomes are critical. Our funding supports tangible resources such as educational materials, technology, and transportation, ensuring that summer learning programs can reach and engage the state's most vulnerable students.
