In Massachusetts, it is primarily the communities in urban areas and low-income neighborhoods that face these critical barriers to effective cancer prevention and treatment. Neighborhoods in Greater Boston, like Roxbury and Dorchester, have high rates of diagnosed cancers but lack sufficient resources for early screening and preventive education. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these issues, leading to decreased screening rates and increased fear of seeking health services among vulnerable populations.
To address these barriers, the funding will support community health initiatives that focus on cancer prevention education and screenings in high-risk neighborhoods across Massachusetts.
